I would say my 1983 JCM800 4104 (vertical input 65 speakers) and my Black 2554 Jubilee ....Combo amps were easier for me back in the day but almost 60 and they both feel like a ton of bricks these days. Do yearn for a SV20!
:welcome: to the forum! Feel free to post some pics of your Marshalls if you get a chance!

Upon considering and averaging all aspects and factors (tone, dynamic response, practicality for gigging use in today's environment, etc.) I'd have to say my SV20H through a 1965B, loaded with the original 94db sensitivity, G10L-35 speakers. The amp actually sounds just the tiniest bit more stellar through my '72, 1960B with OEM G12M/25/75Hz greenbacks, but is considerably louder!

It should be noted that the title of this thread concerns "Favorite Marshall Amp" instead of best sounding Marshall amp! Yes, back in the day, a well maintained 1959 or similar might have sounded a little better, but even back then it was a bit impractical and overkill (volume wise) for typical gin mill gigging!

Just Screechin' & Squawkin'

Marshall 2203x +‎SC20H
Marshall 1959 +SV20H
Marshall S525H
Marshall DSL 100H (Modded)
Marshall DSL 40Combo

As for solid state Marshall JCM800 series, lead 12+
Marshall 8100H +8080/8040 Combos 100H (Modded)

I mention the solid state heads cause they do sound good in low volumes although they don't compare to decent Tubes.

The tone of the JCM800 2203 is glorious with Les Pauls with Asymmetrical Clipping pedals like Boss SD-1, MXR Dictation + or Proco Rat

As well as using symmetrical clipping diode pedals like the Boss DS2 with single coil Strats

of what I’ve tried/played, my ‘78 2203 is hard to beat, just all I need is there, playing mainly strats.
I must say I’m pretty impressed with the sc20h as well, very similar to the 2203, more compressed and more gainy but a great little box wth that typical Marshall voice

Here is my if I had to pick order of favorites:
1) JTM45 RI
2) JCM-800 2203x
3) Vintage Modern 2466
4) SV 20 head

it’s difficult to pick a favorite out of those. The JTM 45 is, I think, nearly a perfect amplifier. As you can see they are all newer marshals. When I was a kid my first Marshall was a 50 W plexi head with a Marshall cabinet containing 8 tens 😳 (wow)
later I switched to a 100 W plexi stack. 💥🔨

So, Truth told, any of these amps make me blissfully happy

we’d be in deep shit without Jim Marshall…
and Les Paul!

I bought a '96 1987 non efx loop 50 watt new. I have several other amps, but the 1987 does everything I want it too. Great tone with plenty of headroom and has a killer clean tone. I use a boost and an overdrive pedal for a solid overdriven tone. And at only 50 watts, it has way more volume than needed for most indoor gigs... reaches that sweet spot quicker that my 100 watt amps...
