Which LP case should I keep?

+1 on keeping them both. But, if for one reason or another you HAD to sell one, I'd dump the SKB. There is just something about opening those old Gibson cases, and pulling the shroud back to uncover a well-made instrument that gives me a chub.

Which Les Paul do you prefer?

I say it's a case-by-case basis. Both of my lesters came stock with uncovered pickups, and I honestly like the way they look. But, on an LP Custom (yours in particular), I think it looks better with the gold covers on the pickups. And God damn it shooto, before you started posting about...

I need to stay out of guitar stores

Yep, it's a '97 ( I think), I don't remember what pickups came stock in that model. But, it is a nice lester for sure. That's one hell of a find.

    Just turned 46...

That is pure gold right there. My 43rd is coming this summer, and that line will be written on everything in my house on that day. Happy 46th Bb5!

I need to stay out of guitar stores

Those Joe Perry sigs are nice guitars. That was the only color option for that model. They were really just an LP studio with a nice top and his signature silk-screened behind the tailpiece. It was first released in the mid 1990's, and if memory serves me right, they went for around $1,200 brand...

    NPD! sabbath sludge inside

Yeah, I know... just giving you a hard time. Speaking of Laney, I really want to check out one of those TI15-112 combos. It's a shame that both of the Guitar Center locations near me are lousy and never have anything worth buying in stock.

    NPD! sabbath sludge inside

You have an OR15, and you needed to buy a new pedal to find Sabbath tones?

    Legendary clubs

A handful of what I consider to be legendary NJ clubs that I played at as a kid. It's a shame, quite a few of these places don't exist anymore, and some would say the same about the local music scene in NJ. The Brighton Bar The Court Tavern The Fast Lane The Melody Bar The Stone Pony

    Jackson RR1 questions

The RR1 is a USA made model. There were several MIJ models over the years, both bolt-on and neck-thru. If the serial number stamped on the bottom of the fretboard begins with a "U", it's a USA model. The "lightning sky" artwork has been a standard finish option on the USA made V's and Soloists...

Thoughts on the poplar body strat

I prefer poplar for strat style bodies. You have to finish it with solid colors because it sometimes has nasty looking mineral streaks in it. But, it has tightly closed grain that is easy to finish with very little, sometimes no filler required. Plus, it's a bit heavier than alder, which I also...

NGD - my first les paul

Yep, that is a nice one. Congrats! But, I still say: plain top or solid color=pickguard figured top=no pickguard

    4 hole jcm 800

Greed? I think not. Perhaps a man who knows a good investment when he sees one, provided the inside hasn't been mucked around with too much. I would be a bit skeptical about an extra hole on the faceplate.

It's getting embarrassing to be English!

Speaking of Black Friday jackassery... I needed a few things from Walmart yesterday. So, thinking I was slick, I purchased it online, and opted for "in-store pickup". I figured they could pull the 4 or 5 things I needed. Then, all I'd need to do is go see whatever intelligent and polite...

    Ball park value of

A mid 90's Historic reissue is a really nice guitar. Someone selling one of those is probably selling it because they NEED the money. Again, finish issue on the back of the neck is a fairly inexpensive and easy fix to do yourself. And, around $2,000 is a pretty good price for that guitar...

    Ball park value of

If the finish damage is only on the back of the neck, and only through the top coat, it's a pretty easy fix. I think a rattle can of nitro clear gloss goes for around $15.00 (Reranch, Behlen, or Color Tone). Watco rattle cans are now sold at Lowes, and Minwax Lacquer is sold at Home Depot. They...

i hate new strings,...and string beans!

Hmmmm, I actually really like new strings. I go through a whole process of taking the guitar apart, giving it a proper cleaning and polishing, then putting new strings on and properly stretching them. It takes a while, but I find it to be therapeutic. And, there is nothing like the sound and...
