You can buy a clone, or have one built for less money. It will resemble the look of a vintage Marshall. It will resemble the sound of a vintage Marshall. But at the end of the day it won’t BE a vintage Marshall.
I have a room half full of amps, modern and vintage, Fender, Vox and Marshall. All...
Put in in the “I don’t automatically change caps” category too. Often they work fine for another decade or so, it all depends on the amps history of use. If the last owner kept it home and played it regularly they could be fine.
Blown HT fuse could be tubes/mismatch or both. Probably not...
I like both, but I hear the 50 in a live mix easier with less volume. The 100s are a bit more hifi and have less midrange push, therefore I need to turn them louder to hear in the band. Playing alone? The 100 for sure as it fills more spectrum. Just me.
I love it. I’ve owned a few 4010s and always regret getting rid of them. My ‘68 plexi is my dream amp, but if I was on a desert island......a 4010 and a loooong extension cord.
You mean the piping through the tolex right? Because ive had 2 ‘71-72 2045s and they both had gold through the Tolex and white ar0und the checkerboard.
You can change the speaker(s) to make 8 ohms and set the amp to 8 ohms. Welcome.
I use Marshall Powerbrakes on the SV20 as well as my original 1968 plexi which is just a bit more valuable. I would use an Ironman, but they are both reactive loads, the Powerbrake does 8 or 16 ohms and they’re...
Wait! There is more to say. Master volumes do not sound like cranked attenuated power amps. Nor does master volume distortion have the picking and guitar volume dynamics of an attenuated power amp. They are very different and sometimes one suits a music style better than the other.
Having...
Well there’s a lot changed. Output transformer, choke, board, most small components, rectifier, more. The good news is he used fairly quality stuff and the work looks decent. I can’t speak to the value but I’ll bet it sounds good.
If you consider guitar in its current state I think you’ll find high gain players want more gain while everyone else is moving back towards cleaner tones. It’s a good thing technology lets every have whatever they like.
I will never buy a quad of 25 watt speakers from anyone that used 1 cab with a 100 watt amp. Marshalls own operators guide states a 100 watt amp can put out 170 watts.
Yes the V-type isa cheap speaker. But just as Chinese Greenbacks are well liked so are the V-type. Is you like it, I wouldn’t run out and buy others. I have a room full of new and vintage celestions and I don’t hate the V-type.
But I agree for such a high $$ cabinet, there should have been...
I move a few amps in and out. For anything worth over $500 usd it’s $100 shipping and insurance for HEADS and another $50 for combos. Just got an AC15 in and the shipper paid a UPS store to pack it. Cost him $200 total.
You can’t imagine how much time and money I’ve spent to prove to myself that modern speakers, ANY modern speakers can sound as good as original pulsonic coned celestions. They can’t. For me a few thousand $ for a couple quads of 55hz pulsonic cones is good value. They are the most important...
