I love a great sounding 4x12, but it's usually 2x12; my 2x12 sound great but are easier to move around. I'll never get rid of my beloved 4x12. Everybody just gotta do what fits their situation.
I think that it's probably a "levels" parameter issue that needs to be addressed. Luckly, there's several ways the situation due to the versatility of the amp and the versatility of parameters on most modern pedals, multi-effects, and racks.
First step is to get your effects levels settings...
I've owned the NS-2 for a very long time, and I've used (but don't own) the NS-1x a couple of times. I'd say both pedals seem to be a little more effective when using the built-in loop (send/return) than when running the signal through "input" and "output".
