I didn't read the entire thread, but the OP reminds of me a of a similar situation. A few years ago my wife and I (and our 2 cats) were sitting in the bedroom talking on the bed, when we heard an out of the blue crash of thunder. It was the loudest I've ever heard, and there was no rain so it...
I never gigged but I totally relate to a lot of things people are talking about in this thread. One thing I have trouble with is staying interested as I get older. I play for a few months regularly, then not at all for a few months. Seems like I enjoyed playing the most when I was in my late...
^This was gonna be my suggestion as well. I don't have one, but the one I tried out sounded amazingly good to me. I'm probably gonna eventually get one myself, in fact.
I always liked Carvins, sed to really drool over them as a teenager in the 70's. I've never seen one in person though. That one is a beauty, I bet with the Bare Knuckle PUs it will finally sing/scream. :)
Either way I'd be wearing ear plugs in this situation for sure. I think you have the right idea about powering up, don't wanna be struggling to stay in the mix. :)
Sweet Strat. Honestly, I don't think you really got the short end of the deal, that LP was pretty beat looking with that uber relic job on the back. I doubt you would've been able to sell it for much more than the Strat is worth, especially with all the upgrades it has. I love MIM Strats...
That Strat is a beauty, I like it just the way it is, personally. I think it will be damm shame if you relic it, especially as it's fairly unique guitar.
No, you're absolutely right. I didn't mean to imply all 70's Strats were crap, because that certainly wasn't the case. In fact I think a lot of them were probably very nice guitars. But as said, there were many duds.
Especially the late 70's ones I've seen - always crude looking and heavy...
In response to people saying that great music was made on 70's Strats I'd agree, but.. you can't really compare the guitars famous (and wealthy) rock star types were playing to the off-the-shelf version a normal person would buy. I have no doubt their stuff (amps, too!) were really almost custom...
I agree with the people that think the CBS Strats were mostly junk. I had a '79 (3 bolt neck) for a while and it was HEAVY, and fit and finish were pretty poor, honestly. In fact all the other ones I've seen from that era at 2nd hand shops have been the same way.
Modern Strats absolutely blow...
A degree is almost a must these days. I work p/t in retail, and seeing people that are in their 50's and 60's in that business is a very sad thing. Terrible pay and lack of benefits makes surviving extremely difficult. They spend their lives struggling with no security and age just making things...
I've always liked him too. Like was said in the OP, he was very innovative but didn't overload his solos with unneeded, over-the-top wankery. Very melodic player, too. So yeah I guess I'd have to say, he's probably one of my favorite guitarists. :)
