I grabbed the 2555X during the $999 sale. It’s a versatile amp with good sounds. I ultimately sold it to a Bonamassa fan. Nice amp but I was getting the tones I wanted from other amps and it wasn’t getting much play. The clean doesn’t get mentioned enough in my opinion. I also consider it a bit...
They don't come up very often here in the US. For good reason. GC has a head listed at $2500. I think that is a bit high but it only takes one buyer. I figure $2500-$3000 for a private sale for the set, unless you want to move it quickly or get top dollar.
My favorites that I actually own or have owned are the Astoria Custom for dirty tones and a Carol Ann JMP-50 clone for cleaner tones.
Into a 4x12. Does that need to be said?
If you are looking at modern offerings, then the G12-65 is the Heritage G12-65. This is a reissue of sorts of the classic from the late 70s and early 80s. The Heritage speakers do sound good. And yes, the G12-65 is popular with 2204s, 2203s as well as Dumble-style circuits...
Yeah, I saw the price. I bought it. It was handwired in the UK and it included the Vib/Trem channel, which is a big part of the circuit. It's not a simple build.
Any idea what Friedman's take will cost?
Sale is for the B (straight) cab seen below. You pick up. $1000 cash. PayPal is also cool but you will have to pay any fees there.
These are $1900 new.
2551AV and 2551BV
A super stylish 4x12” Silver Jubilee reissue in silver vinyl. This cabinet contains four 70W Celestion G12 Vintage speakers...
I primarily use my 18W with a 2x12 open back cab loaded with Heritage G12M speakers. I have read the EVH is the same as the Heritage G12M, cosmetics aside.
I think it’s a great pairing.
Nice! My VK came with P10Rs. I replaced them with G10 Golds. I liked the VK so much that I also grabbed its big brother, the Dual Professional. The reverb and trem on these amps is to die for.
If one of you is eyeing the Studio Silver Jubilee, the full 100W version (2555X) is 600 more than the Studio version. I'd go that way. Also, Sweetwater sells 100W+4x12 with a $500 bundle discount - $3K for the set as opposed to $2450 for the Mini+2x12.
The Marshall Astorias
The Astoria Custom is one of Marshall's finest high gain amps and the Astoria Classic is one of their finest amps for clean tones IMO. The Astoria Dual sits in the middle with one Classic inspired channel (Clean) and one Custom (OD) inspired channel.
Relax. I was laughing at the story in the OP and all the jokes that followed on the first page. I didn't want to quote 10 posts. Your post just happened to precede mine. I wasn't laughing at your post.
